Aligator Clip Connector for MakeyMakey

Intro: Aligator Clip Connector for MakeyMakey

Let's make it a little easier to connect your aligator clips to the headers of the MakeyMakey. Instead of using a jumper wire and grabbing it with one side of the alligator cables, I decided to cut the cables and solder a nice connector onto it.

STEP 1: Remove the Alligator on One Side of the Cable

Cut off the alligator on one side of the cable. Make sure you leave some cable, so you can use the alligator easily for something else.

STEP 2: Solder the Wires to the Connector

Add a shrink sleeve to your wire and solder them to your connector. I decided to have some kind of rainbow arrangement, so it's easy to remember the order when you connect something to your MakeyMakey.

For better soldering results: first put some solder on your wire and add some to your connector as well, this will make them easier to solder them first time right.

When your happy with the soldering, slide the shrink sleeves over the connector and heat them so they will nicely shrink over your connector ensuring you're not making false contacts.

STEP 3: Enjoy Playing With Your MakeyMakey!

Enjoy! Less false contacts or alligators losing connection with the MakeyMakey headers.

Hi Charlotte,
Love your idea, I was actually trying to do something similair but the header broke off the MaKey.. Have you ever tried soldering the wires directly to the board?
Thanks
Tom
That should be possible, but it will be fragile
why not just desolder the connector? Also put some heatshrink over all the wires at the connector

Exceelent! I'm sure that this has so may applications other than just the MakeyMakey.
