Intro: All Natural Chocolate Body Scrub

If you've had a tough day and need someĀ invigorating, or if you simply want healthy skin, making this completely natural body scrub--infused with chocolate-- is sure to be a success.

This is very simple to make and easy to store.

STEP 1: Ingredients

-1 cup raw sugar
-2 1/2 Tbs cocoa powder
-1/4 cup raw oats
-2 Tbs honey
-1/8 tsp vanilla
-2 tsp olive oil
-a healthy dash of cinnamon

STEP 2: Beneficial Properties of Ingredients

Some ingredients in this recipe have certain properties that are beneficial to healthy skin.

Cocoa is full of antioxidants and remove many dead skin cells.

Oatmeal is an exfoliator that has a nice effect on skin.

Honey and olive oil both help to soften and moisturize skin.

Vanilla is said to help relax people.

STEP 3: Grind Oats

The oats are going to need to be ground into a fine powder. Use a small food processor or blender to grind all the oats.

STEP 4: Mix Ingredients

Mix sugar, cocoa powder, oats, honey, and vanilla. The result should be a mostly light brown powder.

Then add olive oil to make a pasty substance. Add the cinnamon.

Note: Clumps will appear naturally, but if clumps become too large, use the back of a spoon to get rid of them.


STEP 5: You're Done!

The body scrub is finished! Store in container of your choice. (I chose a salad cruet with a fairly large spout.)

Keep refrigerated if you want it to be cool when applied to skin. It works best on wet skin, or in the shower.

I was wondering if you can use regular sugar or just cut out the sugar completely?

Hi, what do you mean by vanilla? Like Vanilla pods or will Vanilla extract do?

Vanilla extract will work great!

Any idea how long this will keep at room temp without going bad?

These ingredients shouldn't go bad quickly, but the scrub will probably lose its "freshness" within a couple of weeks.

Also, mine came out chunky, so I put the whole thing back into the food processor and chopped it up a bit and that fixed it.

Hi. I have been trying for some time to find out how to DEHULL the oats before use. Any ideas? After all, this was being done for thousands of years before the invention of dehulling machines...
Good point. I know there are plenty of types of oats grown that naturally have a very small hull, but for completely de-hulling them I'm not completely sure if there's a great way to do it. If you're trying to do it at home, I'm pretty sure roasting the oats swells the grain inside, which forces the hull open. For this recipe, it's not very important to have hull-less oats, but if you get a method that works, let me know!

It might be a good idea to add some mesh, though I doubt it would build up too quickly because of how small the blender makes the oatmeal. But if you had a food processor or blender that isn't very fine, it would be a good idea. (Thanks for commenting. ;))
Great instructable! Do you put a mesh cover on your drain when you do this scrub to prevent oatmeal getting into the pipes, or is it not a problem because you blended it first?
