Introduction: Almost Skiving Snackbox: Simple Nosebleed Nougat & Fever Fudge

Two hallmarks of the Weasley Twin's Skiving Snackbox:

Nosebleed Nougat and Fever Fudge.

Both of them are relatively simple to recreate, albeit without magical reactions, for Muggles. If you've got a sweet tooth and love fandom flair, these recipes are for you.

Step 1: Nosebleed Nougat: Ingredients

First on the board is Nosebleed Nougat- it's super simple! It's completely no bake.

You need:

  • Marshmallows [1 cup or so, depending on how many candies you want]
  • Powdered sugar [Generally a 1:2 ratio to the marshmallows, but more may be needed]
  • Food color [Orange and purple are book accurate]
  • Flavorings
    • I used Ube (purple yam) [a couple drops] flavoring for the anti-bleed side, you could also use vanilla. I used soy sauce [1 teaspoon] for the nosebleed-inducing side. Get creative! Anything indulgent or smooth will work for the purple side.

Step 2: Nuke It

The first step is to microwave half of the marshmallows for one flavor. Do this for 10 second intervals until puffy and softened. Make sure to keep an eye on it! If youre making a large batch, it's very easy for the mallows to overflow and get everywhere.

Step 3: Flavoring

Next, add flavoring to the half cup of marshmallows, I forgot to photograph the ube drops, so here's a picture of the soy sauce for the orange side. Due to the liquid added by soy sauce, the orange side will need more sugar to firm up in the next step.

Step 4: Kneading and Color

Sprinkle a surface (mine is a cooking board) heavily with your sugar. Next, pour your softened marshmallows on top, sprinkle on more sugar and start to knead the mixture together, adding sugar wherever it tries to stick. Do this until the sugar-mellow mixture is firmer and doesn't cling to the hands. This is the stage where I drop in the coloring. You'll need about two or three drops total of color (for orange, 2 yellow and 1 red. for purple 1 blue and 1 red.) per 1/2 cup of marshmallows for a light color like shown, for a bolder color, just add more.

Keep in mind you may need a LOT of powdered sugar and marshmallow seems to be very tempermental about it, don't worry if you think you've put a lot on your surface. It all gets folded in and dissolved into the warm mallows.

Step 5: Shaping

Repeat the process to make the other color, if you made the purple, make the orange. If you made orange, make purple.

Now roll the doughs into two logs, then attach them by wetting a side of one with water and pressing them together. Flatten the two logs and you're ready to roll!

Step 6: Final Chilling and Cutting

Finally, cut your logs into diamond pieces. The scraps can be used to make new logs and more nougat or just eaten on their own. Eat immediately or store in the fridge until ready.

Step 7: Fever Fudge: Ingredients

You will need

  • Brownie mix or recipe and whatever that requires, but also...
  • Cream cheese
  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Egg
  • Flavorings
    • We used mint for the blue soothing side and cinnamon for the red fever side.

Step 8: Mix Brownies

Mix brownies according to your own favorite version. I thought I'd try it with a fudgy brownie instead of actual fudge for something different and it ended up wonderful!

Step 9: Mix Cream Cheese

Mix cream cheese with recipe below.

  • 2 Tbs flour
  • 6 oz cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
The mixture will look fairly smooth until you add the egg, after which it will look a bit odd and grainy. Don't worry! It should look like that.

Step 10: Add Color & Flavor

Split the cream cheese into 2 cups and add food coloring to each cup, blue and red separately. Add a few shakes of cinnamon to the red mixture and a few drops of mint extract to the blue mixture.

Step 11: Swirl

Spoon the colored cream cheese over the brownies and swirl carefully with a fork. Try to keep a clear distinction where the red and blue separate! That will help when youre cutting them out. We wouldn't want someone getting a fever again when they were trying to soothe it :)

    Step 12: Bake

Bake according to the brownie recipies temperature instructions. It may take longer due to the cream cheese, once the top of the brownies forms a light crust, cover it with foil! Mine took about 10-20 minutes longer, and still ended up just a bit farther than too soft.

Don't make the mistake I did, because while the brownies are still good, the top got a little too golden and the blue and red are hard to see.

    Step 13: Finished!

Now you can cut the brownies into rectangular strips, including both the red and the blue. It's very fudgy and chocolatey, just another take on the idea of fever fudge. I hope you try it out!
