Introduction: Amigurumi Adventure Time Jake

Jake the dog is from the cartoon adventure time. I created this pattern because I wanted a Jake toy and could not find a free pattern online.
Final body measurement is 6 inches tall and 4 inches wide plus long 5 inch legs.

Supplies:
Golden yarn http://www.lionbrand.com/6030/PictPage/1922241078.html

5.50 mm hook
Needle
Scissors
polyester fiberfill stuffing

Step 1: Body

Body (golden yarn):
R1: 6 SC into ring (6 SC)
R2: 2-SC INC around (12 SC)
R3: *SC 1, 2-SC INC into next SC * around. (18 SC)
R4: * SC 2, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (24 SC)
R5: * SC 3, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (30 SC)
R6: * SC 4, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (36 SC)
R7: * SC 5, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (42 SC)
R8: *SC 6, 2-SC INC into next SC * around. (48 SC)
R9-34: 1 SC in each SC around. (48 SC)
R35: *SC 6, 2-DEC into next SC * around. (42 SC)
R36: *SC 5, 2-DEC into next SC * around. (36 SC)
R37: *SC 4, 2-DEC into next SC * around. (30 SC)
Stuff with polyester filling.
R38: *SC 3, 2-DEC into next SC * around. (24 SC)
R39: *SC 2, 2-DEC into next SC * around. (18 SC)
R40: *SC 1, 2-DEC into next SC * around. (12 SC)
R41: *2-DEC into next SC * around. (6 SC)
Sew closed. Fasten off. Leave a long tail for attaching. Stuff with polyester filling. Set aside.

Step 2: Legs, Ears and Tail

Legs x4 (Golden yarn):
R1: 4 SC into ring (4 SC)
R2: 2-SC INC around (8 SC)
R3-33: 1 SC in each SC around. (8 SC)
Fasten off. Leave a long tail for attaching. Stuff with polyester filling. Set aside.

Ears x2 (golden yarn):
R1: 6 SC into ring (6 SC)
R2: 2-SC INC around (12 SC)
R3-9: 1 SC in each SC around. (12 SC)
Fasten off. Leave a long tail for attaching. Set aside.

Tail (Golden yarn):
R1: 4 SC into ring (4 SC)
R2: 2-SC INC around (8 SC)
R3-13: 1 SC in each SC around. (8 SC)
Fasten off. Leave a long tail for attaching. Stuff with polyester filling. Set aside.

Step 3: Face

Nose (Black yarn):
R1: 3 SC into ring (3 SC)
R2: *SC 1, 2-SC INC into next SC * around. (6 SC)
R3: * SC 2, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (9 SC)
R4: * SC 3, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (12 SC)

Eyes x2 (Black and white yarn):
With white yarn
R1: 3 SC into ring (3 SC)
R2: *SC 1, 2-SC INC into next SC * around. (6 SC)
R3: * SC 2, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (9 SC)
R4: * SC 3, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (12 SC)
R5: * SC 4, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (15 SC)
Switch to Black yarn
R6: 1 SC in each SC around. (15 SC)
Fasten off. Leave a long tail for attaching. Set aside.

Jowls (golden yarn):
R1: 3 SC into ring (3 SC)
R2: *SC 1, 2-SC INC into next SC * around. (6 SC)
R3: * SC 2, 2- SC INC into next SC * around. (9 SC)
R4-22: 1 SC in each SC around. (9 SC)
Stuff with polyester filling.
R23: *SC 2, 2-DEC into next SC * around. (6 SC)
R24: *SC 1, 2-DEC into next SC * around. (3 SC)
Sew closed. Fasten off. Leave a long tail for attaching. Stuff with polyester filling. Set aside.

Step 4: Assembly

Assembly:
Using the long tail left for attaching sew the tail to the bottom back of the body. Sew the ears to the top sides of the body. Directly below the ears sew on 2 of the legs. At the bottom below the top legs sew on the other 2 legs. Curve the jowls and sew on to the top half of the body. Sew the eyes above the jowls and stuff slightly. Sew nose on the center of the jowls and use the leftover yarn from the nose to make the mouth.

I got through to R9-34 and finished with 48 SC. then when I go to R35 I get way over 42 stitches, somewhere in the 50's . What am I doing wrong?!?
