Analyzing the Drinking Bird

Introduction: Analyzing the Drinking Bird

When was the last time you saw one of these? This classic childrens toy seems very simple but the chemistry involved is very interesting. Do you know how it works?

It should be possible to do, I have also thought about trying to make one of these.

I managed to find one of these in the late 90's and bought it as soon as i saw it as we had one in our front window for years back in the 70's.

I brought the new one home set it up on the table and told my brothers kid not to touch it, I walked out of the room and literally 5 seconds later herd the tinkle of broken glass.  Its seems she didn't touch it she just looked at it really hard.

When you said chemistry, you clearly meant PHYSICS. There are no chemical reactions involved, just physical interactions.

Well it's vaporising and condensing so technically it is chemistry.

    chemical reaction

    noun
(chemistry) a process in which one or more substances are changed into others

No substance changing here, only state of matter.  Physics, not chemistry.

This isn't really an instructable. It's just a video from somewhere else, and it features no instructions of any sort.
