Introduction: Anti-migraine Mask With Organic Filling

As several people in my family suffer from migraines and we live on medication, dim lights, black out curtains and sleep with an eye mask, I thought of upgrading the mask and make one that also serves as a cold compress, taking into account the resource and environmental factor; since I would not know how to make a gel mask, researching organic and easy to get options I found the option of using grains that are used as heat compresses to relieve muscle aches. I selected among them the ones that withstood the cold and/or freezing the most and came out with this result.

Supplies

Step 1: Measuring Face

  • Measure 5 cm above the eyebrows.
  • Measure 5 cm below eyebrows
  • Measure 3 cm from the eyebrows to the septum of the nose.
  • Measure from where one eyebrow ends to where the other ends and add 2 cm on each side.
  • Measure width of septum and make a note of it, and mark side and side of that distance.
  • Measure distance from the back of the head, passing through the beginning of the ears with the distance to the eyebrows (for the measurement that the elastic band will have).

Step 2: Making Patterns

  • With a piece of paper, mark the center of it in the middle; and as you measured in the previous step taking as reference the eyebrows, take this middle point as if they were them.
  • Mark the measurements taken and make a rectangle with the points marked in the previous step.
  • That rectangle is where the mask is delimited.
  • Mark on that paper the beginning of the ears to use as a guide when cutting the fabric (where the elastic band will go through).
  • Edge the corners of the rectangle.
  • Cut out the patterns:
  • One pattern is for the inner bag where the beads will go, this is pattern 1.
  • The other pattern, consists of pattern 1 cut in half + with 2cm to 1.5 cm to the side; calling it pattern 2.

Step 3: Cutting Fabrics

  • Mark the pattern on the fabric (backwards, where it will be sewn) and leave 5mm to 1 cm extra where it will be cut; the measurement of the pattern is the sewing line.
  • Mark where the zipper will be sewn.

Step 4: Sewing Masks

  • Surface part of eye mask:
  • Sew the two pattern pieces 2:
  • Fold from the middle 5 mm (x2) and sew.
  • Place fabric front with fabric front.
  • Leave holes for the elastic band and pass the elastic band and match the ends of the band to the sewing edge.
  • Machine or sew along the seam line.
  • Sack of the eye mask, where the grains go:
  • Sew the zipper (which goes along the top), aligning it to the seam line, of both waterproof fabric cuts from pattern 1 (join right sides of the zipper to the right side of each piece of fabric).
  • Once the zipper is sewn, sew along the seam line.
  • Turn bag/sack inside out

Step 5: Use

Fill with grains and refrigerate inner bag.
