Apple Cider Vinegar Sore Throat Rinse

Introduction: Apple Cider Vinegar Sore Throat Rinse

Summary: Gargling with a 50/50 mix of apple cider vinegar and water helps cut phlegm from your throat, which helps reduce sore throats. I've been using this daily for a few years. I learned it from some old timers who swore by it. Given they were in their 80's and healthy I figured they might know a thing or two.

Take a small glass, water down some vinegar to as strong as you can stand it. Gargle a few mouthfuls then drink a sip of it at the end. It's strong, but you'll get used to it, unless you don't. The theory I heard is that the acid in the vinegar will kill bacteria and loosens phlegm. Sounds plausible. If that's true, you could use white or balsamic vinegar, but it may not be as palatable. If the taste is too strong for you, try a honey chaser. A spoonful of honey also makes for a good sore throat remedy. At least as helpful as most cough drops.

I gargle with this every morning through the fall and winter and it has helped me. I have not done a double-blind randomized clinical study on it, to quantify my findings. However, when I get up in the morning with a nagging cough, a dose of this breaks up the phlegm in no time.

I have never tried the unfiltered apple cider vinegar with "the mother" in it, so I don't know if that's better or not.

It works if you use it as soon as you notice a sore throat. I agree, unfiltered apple cider vinegar is the way to go

I use it every morning as a preventative whether I feel a sore throat coming on or not. I will get some of the unfiltered stuff to try.

Sore throat is due sometimes to APHTHAS or papillomas. They can be very, very painful.

I suffered aphthas and papillomas since little child. Then, I can say "I know a bit about them".

Well, in my life there was only one effective remedy for aphthas: LEVAMIZOL. Today it is difficult to get it in my country, I buy it in veterinary shops, and use it in the following pattern:

Adults: 150 mg/day ... for three consecutive days every other week.
Children: 2.5 mg / kg / day ... administration in the same scheme.

Moreover, it is interesting to discover THE CAUSE of aphthas and papillomas. In my case, after going through countless specialists, I found myself researching on the web, I suffer from a mild form of Wernicke's encephalopathy, one manifestation of which is precisely the presence of recurrent aphthas and/or papillomas. Fortunately, this disease remains controlled by the simple expedient of strengthening intake of Thiamin (vitamin B1). Since I started the treatment, aphthas and other bothersome symptoms have disappeared.

Anyway I have always at hand my levamizol, for if they return ...

WARNING: Wernicke's encephalopathy IS NOT A RARE DISEASE, so I advise my friends to mention it as a possibility when consult doctor.

I have used the honey and cider vinegar mix as a cough remedy for over forty years. Use the unfiltered cider vinegar. It is better.

In addition to using it as a remedy, the honey and cider vinegar mix make an excellent SALAD DRESSING! Try it.
