Introduction: Arduino Zero Shield for Luos Biometric Security System

If you're here you must have seen my Luos Biometric Security System on an Arduino Zero, if not then go check it out :

At this point your system is looking more like a spider than a security system so let's fix that !

Supplies

What I used to make this shield :

  • Soldering iron and tin wires
  • 20*20 Experimental PCB board (or a larger one that you'll cut later)
  • Header male connector
  • 8*1 pins
  • 5*1 pins
  • 14*1 pins
  • Electrical wires
  • JST connectors
  • 2x 6 pins male and female
  • 1x 4 pins male and female
  • 5x 3 pins male and female
  • 2x 2 pins male and female

Step 1: The Base

Let's start by soldering the header pin on the experimental PCB board so that it fits you Arduino Zero.

Be aware that you have to put the two shorter piece on the digital side. If you look at your Arduino closely you'll see that there is a gap between the D7 and D8 pins that is bigger than the space for a pin but smaller than the space for two pins. Because of this gap you'll have to bend the pins of the 8 pins header for the shield to fit properly.

Then solder the JST female connectors between the header connectors to match the picture.

Step 2: Solder Wires

Now you can solder wires between the header pins and the JST female connector while following the circuit plan.

Your shield is now ready !

Step 3: Connect the Components

Your shield might be ready but your components aren't. For those that are already wired you're going to cut the connector at the end.Be careful to remember where every wire goes.

Then you can solder the wires to the JST male connector. Again be careful not to damage your components, there is an up side to the connectors.

If you have a component that isn't wired just solder wires yourself and add a JST male connector at the end while still paying attention to your connections.

Step 4: And We Are Done !

Here is the final product !

Step 5: Ready for Another Challenge ?

If you want to go further you can make this 3D printed box for your project :

https://www.instructables.com/Turn-Your-Messy-Luos-Biometric-Security-System-Int/

Step 6: Can't Stop, Won't Stop

I made a version of this project on two Nucleo L432KC go check it out !

Step 7: YouTube Video

I also made a tutorial on YouTube where I explain Luos a little bit more and show how to make this biometric security system on an Arduino Zero, then on two Nucleo L432KC and then on one each. Go check it out :
