Introduction: Audrey 2 Pumpkin
I have way too many craft pumpkins decorated around my house but some were getting dated. My crafting skills have evolved since I fist started making these so I took apart an old Audrey 2 pumpkin from a few years ago and gave it a much needed upgrade.
Supplies
Craft foam pumpkin
Acrylic paint
Air dry clay
Glue
Plant pot
Fake leaves
Step 1: Cutting the Mouth
I started this project with a foam pumpkin that was skinny and tall, it somewhat had the proportions of a spaghetti squash. I know it's hard to understand from the picture but I had cut the previously painted pumpkin lengthwise right up to the stem. Once cut I gently pulled the two sides apart but made sure not to remove them from the stem as that was the only thing keeping it together. Audrey 2 is almost entirely mouth, make it big.
Step 2: The Clay Portion
I used the airdry clay to line and fill in Audrey's lip area and smooth things out. She's a plant that came to life, it doesn't need to be perfect or be symmetrical, do whatever you please. The clay was also used to make the teeth and tongue. I rolled out long and skinny cone shapes for the teeth and a long triangle shape for the tongue. Let the clay dry overnight.
Step 3: Painting
I immediately painted the entire project green once the clay was dry, looking at the old paint job was bothering me. Using washes of light and dark green as well as some yellows I painted Audrey 2. I used the paint to help highlight and contour as I wanted. The shape of the pumpkin also gave great guidelines to work with. I painted this slightly different than the Audrey 2 from the movie. I painted her lips pink, the inside of the mouth black and the tongue red. The fake leaves I had were fall colours so I paint those as well with the green paint.
Step 4: Putting It All Together
I used hot glue to stick the tongue and teeth in place. I then added the leaves around the top of the planter and set the pumpkin on top. This is an extremely simple project to do and you can make it as simple or elaborate as you would like. I especially liked doing this project as I got to reuse old supplies I had laying around and give them a new life.
