Introduction: Automated Irrigation System (Arduino-Based)
Ever wanted to grow your own plants but have a habit of forgetting to water or monitor your plants? Usually in these circumstances, your plants die and you'll lose interest or faith in your not so green thumb.
This Arduino-based system is designed to automatically water your plants.
Step 1: PARTS REQUIRED
Basic Circuit Building Materials Required:
(1) Arduino Uno
(1) Soil Moisture Sensor Module
(1) Water Level Sensor Module
(1) Small Water Container/Tank
(1) 5V DC Water Pump
(1) 3mm Green LED
(1) 3mm Blue LED
(1) 3mm Red LED
(3) 220 Ohm Resistors
(1) IRF510 MOSFET
Building Materials for Finalizing Project:
(1) 4 'AA' Battery Holder with 4 'AA' Batteries OR 5V Solar Panels
(1) On-Off Switch
(1) 1/4" Shut Off Valve
(1) Project Enclosure Box
(1) Pot and Basket Mister with Stake
(1) 10ft 1/4'' diameter Vinyl Tubing
(1) Printed Circuit Board (PCB) or Perf Board
(1) Planter's Pot or Basket
* You will not necessarily need entire length of vinyl tubing
** Irrigation materials may be purchased at any home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowe's)
*** Circuit materials can be bought from RadioShack or Amazon
Step 2: TOOLS REQUIRED
No special tools required to build circuit.
Finalizing the Project
Drill with Drill Bits
Step 3: SOFTWARE REQUIRED
Step 4: INSTALL THE ARDUINO IDE CODE
Open the Arduino IDE program and upload the sketch below to your Arduino board.
Step 5: BUILD THE CIRCUIT
Connect the circuit in accordance with breadboard above.
Step 6: ENSURE THE CIRCUIT WORKS
You should always put the circuit together on a breadboard to ensure the circuit works. Test it before assembling it together.
If you having issues, double-check you connected the circuit board correctly.
There should be no errors in the sketch since no libraries are required and uses only the basic code of the program itself. If this does occur, re-download the sketch above.
Step 7: MAKE IT YOUR OWN
This Instructable is only limited to your imagination. Use this basic circuit to create your very own custom Automated Irrigation System. Please post any completed versions to this page. If there are any questions or concerns, please leave a comment below or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
