Introduction: BE the Hottest Toy of the Year - the Rainbow Loom
Rainbow Loom is wildly popular in America right now - and especially in my house. My son Ryan wanted to BE a Rainbow Loom for Halloween and we figured out how to do it. You can see the rest of my family's Halloween and few more Rainbow Loom photos here.
Step 1: Measure and Plan
Take careful measurements of the loom, and the person who will be wearing the costume to calculate proportionate measurements. Use the height to determine a "multiplier" between the loom height and the wearer's height. Our loom measures 10 inches long. We wanted the costume to be roughly 36 inches for Ryan so we used a multiplier of 3.6.
Step 2: 2. Test and Cut
We tested a few methods of attaching cups to the cardboard, ultimately deciding to use zip ties and 10 ounce Solo cups for the project. For our method, cut gray posterboard to size (ours is 10 inch by 30 inches). Make one for the front and back. Wrap each with blue duct tape to give the loom's signature blue baseplates. Wrap Saran Wrap around each to give it a shiny plastic look.
Step 3: Mark and Create
Mark where your cups (pegs) will be. Use a penknife and zipties to secure 10-ounce clear Solo cups to the posterboard, in the alternating one peg/2 peg pattern of the original loom. Then attach front and back together with blue duct tape, making sure that the wearer's head can fit through.
Step 4: Accessorize!
4. Use giant rubber bands from Staples for bands. Add an upside down cane for a loom hook tool.
