Introduction: BEE Well Honey Cough Syrup
I have always loved honey, Bee cause..it is a great natural sweetener and good for boosting the immune system. Lemon also has antibacterial properties and buzzing with vitamin C. Honey and Lemon are a perfect choice for a quick cough remedy.
Step 1: What You Will Need
1-2 glass jars (depending on size you pick) with lid to store in refrigerator
16 oz. raw organic honey (enough to cover lemon slices)
2 organic lemons
Step 2: Simmer Your Tonic
Put a pint of raw honey in a pan on the stove on VERY low heat (Do not boil honey as this changes its medicinal properties).
Take a whole lemon and boil in some water in a separate pan for 2-3 minutes to both soften the lemon and kill any bacteria that may be on the lemon skin.
Let the lemon cool enough to handle then cut it in slices and add the slices it to the pint of honey on the stove.
Let mixture cook on very low heat for 10-15 minutes.
Remove all lemon seeds and let cool.
Step 3: Bee Hold… You Now Have Your Own Honey Bee Cough Syrup
Pour the mixture in a jar with a lid and store in the refrigerator.
To soothe a cough, take 1/2 teaspoon for children up to 25-50 pds, 1 teaspoon for children 50-100 pds and adults can take 1 tablespoon up to 4 times a day.
Bee ware… Don't use honey for children under two years of age - there is a microorganism in honey, that can sometimes make infants ill because of their young digestive system. Alternatives include brown rice syrup, barley, and organic fruit syrups; as substitutions.
The cough syrup can also be used to sweeten tea and will keep for two months in the refrigerator.
