Introduction: Baby Moccasins Crochet Pattern

This contest inspired me to write my first crochet pattern ever! My baby girl is now 3 months old so I made these for her (they come out to be about 3.56 inches). My goal in this pattern is for each step to be clear enough that someone who knows little to nothing about crocheting would be able to replicate these moccasins.

Supplies

  • Main color of worsted weight yarn (I used tan)
  • Accent color of worsted weight yarn (I used dark brown)
  • Size F crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Embroidery Needle

Step 1: Abbreviations and Reference Videos

Step 2: Establishing the First Round

Using main yarn color:

  • ch 8
  • sc 6 starting with the 2nd chain from your hook
  • inc 3 times in the last chain (4 sc in the last chain)

Working around on the backside of the chains:

  • sc 6
  • inc 3 times in the last chain (4 sc in the last chain)

You should now have a round of 20 stitches

Step 3: Finishing the Sole of the Moccasin

Round 2:

  • sc 6
  • inc in the next 4 stitches (2 sc in each stitch)
  • sc 6
  • inc in the next 4 stitches

Your round should now have 28 stitches total

Round 3:

  • sc 6
  • inc in each of the next 8 stitches
  • sc 6
  • inc in the next 8 stitches

Your round should now have 44 stitches total

Step 4: Body of the Moccasin

Round 4:

  • dc 6
  • dc2tog 8 times
  • dc 22

Your round should now have 36 stitches total

Round 5:

  • dc 2
  • dc2tog 8 times
  • dc 18

Your round should now have 28 stitches total

Round 6:

  • dc2tog 6 times
  • dc 16

Your round should now have 22 stitches total

Round 7:

  • dc2tog 3 times
  • dc 16

Your round should now have 19 stitches total

Round 8:

  • dc 19

Round 9:

  • dc 2
  • ch 3
  • turn
  • starting with 2nd ch from hook: dc 16

Round 10:

  • ch 3
  • turn
  • starting with 2nd ch from hook: dc 16
  • ch 3
  • sl into last stitch
  • fasten off and weave end (see fasten off video)

Step 5: Adding the Fringe

Using accent yarn color:

  • make a slip knot
  • sl into the top of the first stitch on the left side of the moccasin
  • chain 7
  • sl into next stitch moving around across the top of the moccasin
  • repeat all the way around the top of the moccasin
  • fasten off leaving 16 inches of a tail

Sew the fringe flat:

  • fold the top round of the moccasin over so the bottom of the fringe reaches about 3/4 of the way down the shoe
  • using the tail, sew the bottom of the fringe to the moccasin so it lays flat instead of curling up
  • sew all the way around and then weave in the ends of the accent color

Step 6: Shoe Lace

Using the accent color:

  • ch 40
  • fasten off
  • weave chain around the top of the moccasin using your embroidery needle
  • pull through and tie in a bow at the front of the moccasin

Step 7: Make Another!

Repeat steps 2-6

Step 8: All Done!

You can now put your cute moccasins on your little 3 month baby or gift them to someone who recently had a baby. You could also use them as a decoration because they are just that cute!
