Intro: Thermoelectric Backpack Refrigerator

Backpack Refrigerator
My name is Dustin.  I enjoy thinking of solutions and ideas to make innovative, new products that could be marketed with the proper tools.  This particular idea includes new applications for solid state refrigeration and heating which can be used by ATV and motorcycle riders, as well as hikers.  I have worked to obtain the knowledge and skills over the last 4 years to work on projects like this, and I am ready to make my ideas a reality.

You will help me to take my designs and to build:
  • Refrigerator/Warmer backpack (ATV riders)
  • Refrigerator/Warmer Saddlebag (motorcycle riders)
  • Refrigerator/Warmer gloves/handle grips
  • Phone/iPod charger using thermoelectric generation
With the following features:
  • State-of-the-art solid-state technology using a Peltier TEC (thermoelectric cooler)
  • Fully insulated, waterproof
  • Fuse protection
  • Quick disconnect from vehicle
  • separate battery supply (optional)
  • No moving parts (besides a fan with a brushless motor)
  • Maintenance free
  • no CFC's. Greener for the environment
  • Adjustable thermostat
  • Solar Rechargeable or tying in to existing vehicle battery.
  • Heating or cooling
To those who say this has already been done:  Yes, there are products for sale now that feature thermoelectric cooling (i.e. Koolatron brand), but they are limited in their cooling capacity and operating ambient temperature range.  I want the resources to address this issue for the more extreme conditions of a recreational vehicle.

I work in a coal mine, and this can transform my life quicker, potentially allowing me to continue to provide for a family of 6 without the dangers I work with now.  Thank you for your consideration!

Hey Dustin drop me an email..... felixjordan@live.co.za lets talk about your project and "your life transformation".
Im Felix Jordan
very nice i was thinking of using a cooler like this on a mount on the back of a goldwing
Thanks, I appreciate that. My original idea was to make a saddlebag fridge just for motorcycles, but it changed to backpack because I could make a makeshift version in the time constraints. I thought it would be a finalist at least, but no luck :)
id do the backpack but i just hate using backpacks while riding except for cammle back but still very nice idea
Try kickstarter.com. This doesn't really look much like an instructable to me. More like something you want help designing, and marketing. Not a bad idea though.
I will be sure to do that, thanks! My video wasn't meant as an instructable, it was meant as an independence project entry for the Jack Daniel's contest.

I made a crude model here, but have researched much of what it would take to make a model that fits the "features" description above, i.e. manufacturer/suppliers for the components, or options for the backpack with or without a battery. Originally I wanted to make a saddlebag for a cruising motorcycle that would do this, but made the backpack for my brother-in-law instead (the guy in the video). Thanks for the input and watching the video!
