Introduction: Bacon Wrapped Breakfast Sausage

About: I am a student at UT Austin. I love to cook and I have a YouTube cooking channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/jonathanmalott

Today I wrapped my favorite breakfast food around my 4th favorite breakfast food!

Why would you wrap bacon around sausage? For one thing, they taste pretty dang good together. Second, serving them together makes for a pretty package to place in front of your breakfast guests. Third, bacon!!

Step 1: Watch the Video!

Here is a quick run-through of the entire process.

Step 2: Gather the Ingredients

For this dish, you will need two ingredients:

  • Bacon (Whatever is in the middle price range for bacon is what I usually go with.)
  • Breakfast Sausage (I'm using Whataburger brand, but any kind you like will be fine)

In addition, we will need:

  • Fancy toothpicks (or regular ones)
  • A heavy skillet (I'm using cast iron, but almost anything will work)

Now get ready to cook!

Step 3: Preheat the Ingredients Seperately

Preheat your skillet over medium heat if it's cast iron, medium high if it's nonstick.

Cut up your sausage into 1/2 inch discs. My sausage had a guide along the side to help me portion, but you can use a ruler too.

We have to give the bacon and sausage a head start separately, because the bacon won't be done if we wrap it around the sausage now. Trust me.

Put the bacon and sausage into the preheated skillet. Cook the sausage for 1 minute on each side and the bacon for 1 1/2 minutes on each side.

Move the meat to a work surface and get ready to roll!

Step 4: Wrap the Sausage

Be careful because the bacon and sausage are still hot, so let them cool for a minute or two.

Wrap a piece of bacon around a sausage patty, and secure it with a tooth pick through both ends. We also need to add two more toothpicks around the circumference to ensure the bacon stays attached.

Step 5: Cook and Serve

Cook for 4-6 minutes total, flipping them about every minute or two, until the sides are browned and the patty is cooked all the way through.

Finally, remove the last two toothpicks (the ones that don't secure the ends of the bacon together).

Serve and enjoy!
