Baked Apples Apple Pie

Introduction: Baked Apples Apple Pie

About: I like to cook and I blog about it. I love to garden and everything about it. I like listening to NPR and watching cooking shows. I have two sons. The oldest I put in collage and he is a Medical Assistant.

Here is a way to enjoy apple pie with all the healthy benefits of the apple. The majority of the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients found in apples are actually in the peel.

Apple peels have minerals including calcium, potassium, phosphorus, folate and iron. Calcium and phosphorus is used by our bodies to maintain strong bones and teeth. Potassium promotes proper cell growth and production, also helps to maintain a healthy heart and digestive system. Iron is needed for red blood cells to carry oxygen and nutrients through out your body.

Enjoy the full benefits of the entire apple while eating a Baked Apple Apple Pie.

Here is what you will need:

5 large apples; mix or match Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith
1 8-9 inch pie crust, pre-made or home made
½ cup of sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. salt
½ tsp. nutmeg
1 tbsp. butter cut in 8 small pieces

Set or preheat your oven to 375 degrees

Core and hollow out 4 apples.

Next dice the apple flesh from cored apples, plus the one remaining apple; peeled and cored first.

In a large mixing bowl combine diced apples, cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg.

Fill each of the 4 apples with the prepared mix. Place two small pieces of butter in each apple.

Step 1:

Next roll out your pie crust cut into strips and create a lattice on top of each apple, slightly allow strips to lap over sides of apple opening.

Place apples on a 13 x 9 baking dish. Put in oven and bake for 30 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes and serve.

Step 2:

Enjoy with a side of real vanilla ice cream.
