Introduction: Baking Soda Reinforcing Glue Repair
Super glue its an amazing tool to have on any toolbox, the applications are virtually unlimited.
Making the perfect tool to repair plastics and other things, the idea for this project is taking this tool to the next level.
One of the common repair to do is filling an reinforcing pieces, cracks, holes and gaps.
On this project i will show you how to grab a simple ingredient like baking soda add to the glue and create a super bond.
Step 1: Watch the Video
Watch the video and see how easy it is to make this project.
With step by step instructions.
Step 2: Gather the Material
You will need for this project:
- Baking Soda
- Super Glue
- Masking Tape
- Pen Cap
- Metal File
Step 3: Get Started
The first step is checking if the piece that you want to fix is clean so that the glue stick to it.
For example if you want to filli a gap, grab the baking soda and filli that gap, if you want you can build up layer by layer.
Then apply the super glue on top of the baking soda, you will notice that the small grains of the baking soda will soak super fast the glue and also cure making a rock solid bond.
Last step will be filing to shape, and if you whant paint also.
Step 4: Final Thoughts
This is a very cheap hack to reinforcing an filling a fragile piece, works also with other materials.
You can also use this to cure really fast super glue.
Tell me on the comments below what applications you will use this for.

Superglue is NOT waterproof!

Superglue cures under water and does not deteriorate quickly
We use it in salt water aquariums all the time
Answer 2 years ago
That's something only you'd know the answer to because we don't know what you're gluing (rubber, plastic, metal, wood, plutonium, etc). The product will tell you what you can use super glue on and what you can't. And if you read the product label its toxic soooo...

This may be waterproof too ! I fixed an aquarium pump with a 1/16 gap and after 15 minutes, I put it in water for about 10 hours running. After removing it, the glue appeared as solid as ever. Using only superglue had failed to stick but the superglue and baking soda worked great.
If anyone knows if this is a permanent waterproof solution let me know since I know some things can survive a day but not a month or more in water.

Dude, first off, its toxic. Read the label. That's why they sell adhesives specifically for aquariums. Super glue isn't meant for under water applications because it deteriorates. Plus not all plastics, rubber, metals, woods, midgets, etc, bond. That's also on the label.

We use super glue to attach marine invertebrate pieces we cut off larger pieces (called fragging) to plugs to begin new colonies all the time.
This is standard practice
Super glue is not toxic nor poisonous (not the same). It is an irritant though
water will not deteriorate CA

Gas tank repair? Will baking soda and super glue. Work to repair it
Answer 2 years ago
Have you tried searching online?
Answer 3 years ago
Never try it, don't know if the gas will affect the super glue.
Answer 3 years ago
In your place I would make a test. Both original tank material and the glue patch, let it soaked on a gasoline recipient and check it out some days (a month would be ideal) later. It may resist the gasoline, but you must assure that the crack/hole/etc. is held together also. And, the fix must be protected against bending twisting and other mechanical forces over the original damage that is to be fixed. Because unless you use specific, industrial grade glue/repair/weld materials, there is no guarantee that it can withstand the normal use of the fixed part.
