Introduction: Balloon Slingshot

Within a few minutes, a balloon and some commonly found items we can relive a fun childhood memory of launching small projectiles at targets from a homade slingshot.

When I was a child my friends and I would make these slingshots obsessively and run around our homes shooting away blissfully. Today, with the wide availability of digital entertainment, simpler forms of entertainment are scarce. Looking back I appreciate how such a simple thing could bring so much joy. Follow along as I recreate this wounderful childhood memory.

Supplies

You will need:

  • Scissors
  • Tube / Toilet Roll / Bottle
  • Balloon
  • Rubber Band

Optional:

  • Decorations
  • Tape

Step 1: Prepare Your Barrel

If you are using a plastic bottle cut it in half. We will be using the side of the lip.

If you are using any type of tube shorten it to be around 10cm in length.

If you are using a toilet roll no modifications are needed.

I will be using a tube taken from a used roll of alluminium foil. I find this preferable as it is slightly thicker than a toilet roll thus being more durable.

Step 2: Prepare Your Balloon

Cut your balloon with scissors as shown above. You may use the remaining piece of rubber in the next step so don't throw it out yet.

Step 3: Assemble the Slingshot

Place the balloon over the lip of your barrel.

Step 4: Secure the Slingshot

Place rubber bands tightly over the balloon so that when pulling back on it the balloon doesn't come off the barrel.

If you are having trouble securing the balloon you may also find putting tape over the rubber bands helps.

Step 5: (optional) Decorations

Feel free to go wild and decorate your newly made Ballon Slingshot as much as your heart desires.

Step 6: Have Fun!

Grab a handfull of small rocks or bb's and go to town. Put the rock down the barrel, all the way into the balloon, hold the rock from the outside of the balloon, pull back and release. I recommend setting up targets like cardboard, paper, cups, cans or bottles. The Balloon Slingshot can pack quite a punch so be carefull.

That's it!

Thank you for reading my instructable and I hope you have fun building your own Balloon Slingshot.
