Introduction: Bees the Pollinator

About: ICT teacher passionate about coding ☺️

This projects models the relationship between a bee and flower during the Pollination phase using micro:bit, flower and bee models.

Pollination is a vital process by which a flower is affected by bees (in our case) to transport the pollen :

  • In reproduction process flowers rely on bees.
  • The flower's color, size, smell, and nectar are all tricks to attract bees.
  • Pollination is the one of the first steps in a flowering plant’s life cycle.

Bees make excellent pollinators because most of their life is spent collecting pollen.

Step 1: Preparing Models

We have prepared the bee and flower models using unused plastic. We used servo motor to open and close the flower when the bee comes.

You can use any plastic or toys to create your models.

Step 2: Makecode

The microbit connected to the bee communicates with the flower's microbit using radio communication. When the bee is near the flower its sends a message. The flower decodes the message and opens to let the bee consume the pollen.

After finishing the flower closes.

The flower opens and closes using servo motor commanded by microbit.
