Introduction: Bender From Futurama - 87% Iron, 100% Cool
This is a photo set of the construction of my Bender model. Bender is the coolest robot in the universe - including the parallel dimensions.
This model was dimensioned from screen snaps, and dimensions taken from assorted licensed toys - then scaled to suit the materials available. The vast majority of his construction is steel salvaged from old fire extinguishers, propane cylinders, and pipe. His head, arms, and hands are posable, and his expression can be changed by means of various accessories.
Detailed construction notes are located at: http://desbromilow.blogspot.com.au/p/bender-bending-rodriguez-model.html
He took several months to build, and has never ceased to be a conversation starter (or stopper) when people venture into our backyard. Since he is "life size" he can also wear real clothing such as construction helmets, and ties (Thinkgeek never planned this when they released the 8 bit tie!!)
I've already started collecting pieces to build a matching Robot Devil ....
Please vote for Bender in the competition - I can use a better welder, and Bender certainly can use some friends in the backyard!

That looks really cool, why don't you make him in to an actuall robot so it can walk and make sounds.

Tastur26, it would be great to do that - it is on the "to do list" but unfortunately a long way down - One interim solution I started looking at (but go waylaid due to other more pressing projects) was an adaption of the "billy bass" where a sensor detected people walking near him, and a speaker would play sound bites from the show. I got the PIR sensor, but haven't played with it and the picaxe yet.
