Big Blocky Christmas Letters

Intro: Big Blocky Christmas Letters

Celebrate the holidays with a nice big, blocky and sparkly word on the mantle or shelf. It's a nice effect that looks much more solid than it is and can be made for very little money. Just how I like it.

STEP 1: What You Need

Here's what you need to get
  • Bristol paper (100#)
  • X-acto knife or scissors
  • tape
  • Krylon Metallic Shimmer spray paint
  • Krylon Glitter Blast spray paint

STEP 2: Print

Print out the attached PDF below. One There's one sheet for each of the four letters.

STEP 3: Tape and Cut

Tape each of the sheets to a piece of the Bristol board and then cut out the letters

STEP 4: Give It Depth

Now cut out 3" wide strips of the Bristol board  and attach those to the letters with more tape. This requires lots of folding, bending, curling and repositioning. That's why I used masking tape here. It was very forgiving of mistakes.

STEP 5:

With the letters ready to go, apply 2 coats of the Metallic Shimmer spray paint. Since this is paper, allow at least 15 minutes between coats.

When that is dry, apply one coat of the Glitter Blast. This stuff comes out FAST so one coat should be plenty.

Now just let that all dry completely and place somewhere in your house.

Enjoy!

You don't have the rest of the alphabet hanging around do you? I'd like to try your idea in so many ways. Thanks for sharing.
Nice idea for decor, FungusAmungus. And very clear instructions and photos. Thanks!

My motor skills are not as good as when younger. Could you put "tabs" on the edges of the letters in your patterns, to fold back to make taping the 3" pieces easier?
Definitely. You can easily add them yourself when cutting them out.
