This is a cover that I designed for mountain bike flat pedals, this is something that I created because I strongly enjoy MTB but when I load my bike into my car or onto a bike rack I do not like the scratches the pedals leave on my car, or the scratches from other bikes. These covers fit on most bike pedals and they were created around RaceFace Chesters. They only took me maybe 15 minutes to create with my very limited sewing experience. They protect my car from my pedals and are very easy to create. The supplies were not very expensive and with a third of a yard I can make a lot of covers.

Supplies

Materials (per cover):

Sewing machine with a needle and thread
12in x 6 in Neoprene fabric
18in of 1/4in rope
1 draw string toggle
Cutting device (I used Scissors)

Step 1: Setting Up Machine

For this project I set my machine to be the straight dashed line and I used some heavier duty thread to make sure the cover stays together when being used. I also set the foot higher because once the two pices are stacked the foot was too low to fit under.

Step 2: Creating the Drawstring Pocket

For the first step of creating the pedal cover, we will need to have cut the Neoprene into 2 6in by 6in squares. Measure 1 in from the top of one of the square and fold it over. I would recommend pinning the fold down for an easier time sewing the fold over.

Step 3: Create Pedal Pocket

Take both of the two pieces that have the drawstring slots on and stack them on top of each other with the drawstring slots of the same side on the outside. Then sew a line on the bottom edge which is on the opposite side of the drawstring slots. Then starting on the bottom where the last line was and sew up to the folds stopping before the thread reaches the folds on both sides.

Step 4: Install Drawstring

Take the 18 in of rope and slide it through both of the drawstring slots leaving both ends on the same side of the cover. Then slide the toggle onto the string by pressing down on the button to open it and sliding the rope into the now open holes. Then tie knots into the rope on the outside of the toggle to prevent it from coming off. Flip the whole thing inside out and there we are all done.
