Introduction: Bioshock 2 Big Daddy Doll

This Instructable will guide you through the process of making an original Big Daddy doll from Bioshock 2.

I have surfed the net before beginning my work, and I noticed that there is basically a wrong concept between a lot of people: the doll is made from found objects and spare parts, so, it haven't to be identical to the one of the game, to reverse, the more arranged it will look, the better it will be.

Starting from this concept, feel free to use all you will find, and take this Instructable only as a guideline for your own original project.

Step 1: Gathering the Materials

First of all, you need to gather the materials:

1-A baseball ball (head);
2-Three different fabrics (body, legs and feet);
3-A part from a door handle, that resembles a porthole, and his nails (head);
4-Three round headed screws (head);
5-Wire (head);
6-Electric wire (head);
7-Hemp rope (arms);
8-Little ceramic things, that, honestly, I don't know what are supposed to be (hands);
9-Thinner rope (hands);
10-Large screw (right hand);
11-A tubular plastic thing, it is some sort of case I think (tank);
12-A crown cap (tank);
13-A large nail (tank);
14-Some rubber bands (tank);
15-A big paper clip (tank);
16-Random nails.

I found nearly all this material in my attic, so, I don't know what are the strangest pieces, because it has being filled in many years with spare parts and strange things.

Step 2: Gathering the Tools

It is an object made in difficult conditions, in a semi-abandoned city, so, it have to be made with few tools.
I used these basic tools:

1-Hammer;
2-Hand drill;
3-Screwdriver;
4-Wire cutter;
5-Epoxy glue (optional).

Step 3: Beginning the Head

To make the head, start by nailing the door handle part to the baseball ball, that represents the porthole of the diving suit.
Then screw in the three round headed screws. If you aren't able to screw in the screws, you can make holes with the drill, and then screw in.
Now bend the wire in the right shape to represent a protective grid, and, after you made the holes in the right points, you can fix them at the baseball ball by simply hammering the wire pieces in the holes.

If the wire doesn't fit steady, you can add a drop of epoxy glue in the holes.

Step 4: The Oxygen Tank

Nail the large nail to the crown cap, then to the plug of the plastic tube, and finally to something enough sturdy to let the nail in place (I used a wood scrap).
Now you can close the tube again.
Tie some rubber bands to the upper part of the tank, and finally attach the electric wire to the nail under the crown cap with a knot.

Step 5: The Body and the Legs

Begin by the legs.
Make two rectangular pieces for the legs, and two smaller ones for the feet. Sew the feet to the legs, close the side of the leg-foot piece leaving only the part that will be attached to the body open, then turn inside out. You have to fill the legs with something, for example cotton.
Sew the body along the sides and the bottom, leave open the top and the slots for the legs. Sew the legs in their slots, and be careful of sew them on the right side. Now turn inside out also the body.
Finally fill the body. I filled it with cotton, as the legs.

Step 6: The Arms

If the rope is too thin for the arms, then plait it. Tie the ends of the plaited rope, so it won't disassemble.
Now tie the ends of the rope to the hands: in this case the ceramic bits. You can use the thinner rope to tie the larger rope to the hands.

Step 7: Fixing the Arms to the Head

The sturdier method to fix the arms to the head is to nail them to it.

Step 8: The Drill

Simply tie the large screw to the hand with the thin rope.
If it doesn't fit steady you can glue it with epoxy glue, and then tie it.

Step 9: Fixing the Head to the Body

Position the body under the head, fold the open edges of the body on the arms and then sew them. Now the body is fixed to the arms.
If you want it to be attached more steady, you can nail it to the head.

Step 10: Attaching the Oxygen Tank to the Finished Doll

Use some rubber bands to attach the oxygen tank to the body of the doll.
Finally put the paper clip in the front of the body among the rubber bands.

Now the Big Daddy doll is finished!
Admire your hard work and be careful not to wound yourself with the drill! :D

    Aging the baseballs really makes the dolls :) grab some sand paper and go to town, couple of gouges either by bashing on a sharp rock or carving it with a Stanly knife and plain tea works to soak, if not brown leather shoe polish diluted and soaked in :D

    Awesome design :D

    Did some looking around i think 1 is a plastic film canister or something similar looking like the basket on their backs and 2 looks to be some random wire either around the face like a mask or something around the neck like ribbon (the little sisters would adorn the big daddies with ribbons/streamers and crayon drawings seen in the game and on the wiki :D). Making a couple of these myself :)

    As a soft-doll, that's got a good look to it - artistic license well used. Any thoughts on Little Sister to go with it?

    For the sister to be the correct scale as this Big Daddy,it would have to be tiny. If you do try it,remember the big red needle that they carry.

    just a note, might have been good to post a ref. picture for people unfamiliar with the doll somewhere towards the beginning so they know what they're looking at :p

    I thought that too, but I was afraid of breaking some copyrights by using an original image...
