Introduction: Biscochito Cookies

About: I have been sewing and crafting for several years, my children are grown so now I have lots of time to be creative. I enjoy photography, cooking, cake decorating, painting and sharing my projects with others.

I live in the State of New Mexico, it is famous for UFO's, Breaking Bad, green chili and Biscochito cookies! If you love cinnamon and sugar, this is the cookie for you! These yummy cookies are the perfect snack anytime. The slightly licorice taste is what makes these so special.

Step 1: Ingredients and Supplies

To make these cookies, you will need:

6 cups all-purpose flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

2 teaspoons Anise seed (tastes & smells like licorice)

1/4 teaspoon salt


2 large eggs

1/4 cup milk

1-3/4 cup butter or margarine

1-1/2 cups granulated sugar


Additional cinnamon and sugar


You will also need 2 large mixing bowls, electric mixer, rolling pin, 2" round biscuit cutter, cookie sheet, measuring cups and spoons.

Step 2: Mix the Cookie Dough

In a large mixing bowl, mix cups flour, baking powder, Anise seeds and salt.

In a separate bowl, mix together eggs, sugar, butter and milk with an electric mixer.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir with a large wooden spoon until combined.

You may have to add another 1/4 cup of flour.

You'll want to be able to roll it out without the dough sticking to the counter.

Step 3: Roll Out the Cookie Dough

Roll out 1/2 of the cookie dough into a floured surface until it is about 1/4" thick. Cut out with small biscuit cutter or cookie cutter. Repeat with remaining cookie dough.

Step 4: Bake Cookies

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

Place unbaked cookies on cookie sheet and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.

Place cookie sheet in oven and bake for 10 minutes.

As soon as the cookies come out of the oven, remove from cookie sheet and place on a plate or bowl. cover with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. (1 tsp cinnamon to 1 cup sugar) Allow to sit while the next batch is in the oven.
