This is an overview of a Euroline phantom 175 I remodel with a 45hp outboard motor.

Step 1: 45 HP Chrysler Outboard Motor Overview

The boat came with a 45 hp outboard chrysler motor.

Chrysler Outboard Corporation introduced two new engines in 1971: a 150 horsepower, limited production racing engine and a 130 horsepower, top-of-the-line production model. The outboard engines also included specialty items such as a featherweight 3.6 horsepower fishing engine, several 12 low-profile models from 6 to 12.9 horsepower, 28 models in the family-sized range from 20 to 55 horsepower, and 10 high-performance models, from 70 horsepower to the new 130 horsepower model.


Responding to growing concerns about pollution, Chrysler added an exclusive feature on all Chrysler outboards; it eliminated fuel spillage by atomizing and injecting excess fuel back into the cylinders, where it was burned off.

 

In the 1960s, they acquired some competitors’ brands, most significantly West Bend Outboard in 1965.

 In 1970, they introduced a lightweight 13 horsepower model with an optional electric starter. They introduced a 45 horsepower model that year that sold well in succeeding years.


The outboard division was sold to Force International in 1984, which was an affiliate of Bayliner.


Step 2: Motor Exterior

After Doing Research on the Chrysler Motors turns out the hood of theses motors is a big way to determine what year and model the motor is. Since this motor has the black background and the 45 hp is red a commenter named NORDIN on a forum said the year is between 1971 and 1973. They also said that white background and blue numbers is from years 1969 and 1970.

This motor has Long shaft because there is an extension between lower unit and mid leg

The lower unit drain plug is pretty easy to locate. Same with the vent Plug Screw.

How to open Hood. ON part of motor closest to boat under hood area is lever that stick finger up and turn to spin locking latch. toward point of motor then carefully pop up and back can post a pic or vid.

Dont forget a prop this one is a 3 turbine prop



Step 3: Throttle and Shift Cables

So in order to set up the throttle and shifting there is a control box that has a throttle connector in and shifter connection inside. I have a separate ignition switch with choke. Also there is no built in tilt/ trim so going to be adding that separate from this control box.


I NEED TO FIGURE END TYPE FOR EACH SHIFT AND THROTTLE CONNECT TO CONTROL BOX?

NORDIN says on control box just feed end in to connectors on control box connectors.

Also thanks to NORDIN says the shifter cable will be shorter on motor end.

I think my motor is missing the ball Joint

The throttle cable will be longer with a spring loaded connector that should be preloaded around 1/4 inch can find connector on ebay. Have pic of this connection. Need to figure out to add to cable.

I have pictures of the measurements i took from original cable that came in boat. There was only one I don't know if it was the shift or throttle cable. I measured it.

From end to end it was 137 inches

on one end the stuff measures like 9 inches till the actual cable

and on other end was 10 inches to actual cable part.

If I am measuring from right spots

118 inches divided by 12 inches would be just under 10 feet.

I know that if the cable is to long that is okay the part that controls the actual shifting and throttle is determined by end links wires inside the cable.

The exterior was pretty dirty. I tried using a pressure washier and did not seem to work as good as using elbow grease with some cleaning. Not sure if pressure washer wasn't spraying as should but can see where I used it in a couple pics. I plan on removing all pin stripes and old id numbers and adding new ones. There's a lot of small stuff to take on the exterior as well.
