Introduction: Boho Halloween Skull Decor

As I searched the web for new Halloween decor, I came across the conundrum that nontraditional Halloween decor is incredibly hard to find and overpriced when it is found. I discovered a photo very similar to that of my project which I used as my inspiration. This project was very easy to make and came out just as I intended. This skull sign is a very easy and cute piece of decor that can spice up any room.

Supplies

For this project you will need:

-a computer

-cnc router

-2 sheets of wood

-5 colors of paint of your choice

-hot glue

-hot glue gun

-paintbrushes

Step 1: Creating the Skulls

In order to create my skulls, I had to first find a design that I liked. I searched the web and found the perfect one. I then inserted this design into Inkscape, to make the necessary adjustments to be able to print it with the CNC router. I adjusted the nodes and sizing to make each 5 in x 6in. Then, I sent my attachments to the router and cut them out on the hottest temperature. I cut 4 individual skulls. Which, I then let cool down before I moved to the next step.

Step 2: Painting the Skulls

To make this piece of decor more personal, I mixed 4 different colors of paint that I could use for each skull. I used pink, orange, red, and beige for each skull and mixed in white accordingly, until I created the perfect shade of each. I used a medium sized paint brush and painted 3 coats of the desired color onto each skull. After each skull dried, I got a small fine tip, paint brush and messily went around the edges in order to add a weathered detail to each.

Step 3: Painting the Base

For my base, I used my second piece of plywood and instead of cutting it, left it as is. I then used black paint and a wide paint brush to paint the piece of wood. I put on 2 coats of the black paint in order to make the base of my sign the intended color. My inspiration photo did not have a black base, but I thought it would add a nice touch.

Step 4: Putting It All Together

After each piece dried, I could finally put it all together! I plugged in my hot glue gun and got to work. I glued the edges of each skull and placed each, symmetrically next to each other. After, each skull dried to the base; I cleaned up the glue strands and finally my project was done. This project was very simple and created an experience that I can look back on every Halloween when I present the decor in my home.
