Introduction: Bottle Caps Pixel Art
So I wanted to have something colorful in my room but I’m not good at the painter. I came up with this idea to use toothpicks, my 3d printer, some bottle caps (which I have tons of since I’m a College student) and spray paint.
Important tip make sure to use toothpicks from one brand. It can save u a lot of time because one might be slightly bigger than the other. Before printing big quantities just make sure your toothpicks fit tight into connectors.
Supplies
Things u will need :
- 3D printer
- Spray paint
- Toothpicks
- Bottle caps
- Glue gun
- Scissors
- Velcro stickers
Step 1: Painting Bottle Caps
So all you need to do is lay flat all the bottle caps you will need and spray the paint equally on all of them. If a majority of yours are in a dark color and you want to use a light one just paint them white first.
REMEMBER spray painting is toxic so do it outside of your living area!
I did it in my basement with a special painting mask and eye protection.
Step 2: "Oh, Yeah. It's All Coming Together"
Cut toothpicks to the size u like and stick them into connector holes. I recommend doing one line at the time and then connecting the next one.
If even 2mm connectors are too big for your toothpicks I recommend using a glue gun on this stage. Apply a really small amount on the tip of it and place it inside a connector.
Step 3: Glueing
Now the most satisfying part!
Use a glue gun to stick painted bottle caps on the connectors.
Just make sure to remove all the strings of glue before sticking a bottle cap, it will save you a lot of time.
Step 4: Almost Done
All you need to do is to use velcro stickers and stick it to a wall or to the place of your choice.
