Introduction: Bottle to Scoop - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

How about a sturdy scoop for pet food, sand, bird seed, or whatever?!?!

Rather than tosssing that empty plastic bottle in the trash, recycle it! But first, (re)use it for something else. THEN you can toss it in the recycle bin.

This lets you save the world a little more efficiently. :)

We are trying to make a Creative Space in our home town to fill the void left by the local schools dropping shop classes... If you can spare a couple of bucks or can follow us on Facebook and help get the word out... please check out...  http://igg.me/at/creator   and have a look.

Step 1: Get a Bottle.

Rescue a bottle from the waste recepticle in your work or dwelling. Be sure to rinse out any potentially hazardous residue. Handles make larger scoops easier to manage, but no handle is fine also.

Step 2: Cut the Bottle

Get a VERY SHARP knife or razor. Sharp cutting tools make your job both easier and safer. Don't rush. Once you start cutting, the bottle becomes a little flimsy. Keep your digits safe!

Choose your final shape. Do you want a flat top? A beveled flour-type scoop? For your first scoop, draw the cutting lines with a marker before you start. After a few scoops, go ahead and freehand your cutting.

Step 3: Ready to Scoop?

Be sure to recycle the scraps.

If you want to be able to use your scoop as a funnel, remove the screw-top and, voilà, as we (transplanted) French say. You have a funnel.

No funnel needed? For long-term functionality, glue the screw-top on. I use a couple of drops of SuperKrazy-type glue on the threads. Screw it on tightly and let set for a while.

Once the scoop/funnel reaches it's functional life... Into the recycle bin it goes...

Enjoy!
