Introduction: Broccoli Oyako Soup, Easy and Tasty
In the last instructable, I successfully grow some broccoli microgreens in my tiny little office. So it’s time to think about a recipe instead of eating them raw.
Winter is coming to Hong Kong. I would really like a warm soup when I get back from outdoor. Therefore, Broccoli Oyako soup is the best option.
Why Oyako? It is because we are going to blend the broccoli parents (Oya おや) and children (Koコ) together. Anyway, let’s get started.

Step 1: Recipe Ingredients
Here are the ingredients that you needed.
- some olive oil
- a few cheese slices
- 2 sticks of celery
- 400g broccoli
- 100g broccoli microgreens
Basically, this amount of ingredients are good enough for 2-3 people.
Step 2: Trim and Roughly Chop the Celery and Broccoli
Trim and roughly chop the celery and broccoli. Hold the broccoli in the center and just go around. Cut off those florets. There you go, cutting off broccoli is so easy.
When you are looking for broccoli, make sure that it’s all nice and tight close-up. You definitely don’t want it flowering. You should look for something dark green.
Place the broccoli in a container of cold water. Add half spoon of salt and soak for 10 minutes. This can remove the cabbage worms in the broccoli.
For the celery, chop the end. Peel all the leaves off. Remove all the stringy bits. Awesome.
Step 3: Prepare the Rapid Boiling Water
Prepare the rapid boiling water. Put the celery and broccoli into the water for 5 minutes. Seasoning them with a little bit of salt. Use a knife to test the broccoli. If it is easy to cut through, that means it is ready. Put some of the broccoli microgreens into the boiling water for 1 minute before everything is done.
Step 4: Pour the Broccoli Out and Save the Boiled Water
Pour the broccoli out and save the boiled water. Actually, the boiled water is the broccoli stock. Put the broccoli, celery and broccoli stock into the blender and blend it all together. Before it comes out, taste the broccoli soup and seasoning a little bit according to your preferences.
Step 5: Serve the Soup With a Bowl
Finally, serve the soup with a bowl. Put some cheese on top. Seasoning with some black pepper if you want an exciting favor. Finish it with a little bit of olive oil. Wah-la, Broccoli Oyako Soup, easy and tasty.
