I was noticed a stack of really old CDs by my desk (things like Encarta 2000, 65,000 Clipart images, etc.). The first thing I thought was "OOOOHHHH shiny". The next thing I thought was "Hmm, maybe I could make something out of those for the Light up the Night contest (since shiny == reflective). So, since I like to break things (who doesn't), I broke up the CDs and glued them to a hat. I feel like I'm just breaking open a whole new medium. I have lots more CDs (I just noticed a stack of old Linux Distros I've burned over the years). I mean, who wouldn't want to wear shards of broken plastic on their clothes? My wife is gonna love this!

By the way, my daughter was only allowed to wear this under close supervision. She just looked way better than me in the hat (and I mean WAY better).

Step 1: Parts

To make a hat like this you'll need

1 - hat
lots of - CDs
some - glue

Tools
Gloves (for the breaking CDs part)
Safety Goggles (again, for the breaking CDs part)
Trash Bag (to contain the shards of plastic)

Step 2: Breaking CDs

Since we're making a CD mosaic, we need to break up some CDs. I'm sure there are lots of ways to do this, but this is the way I did it.

1. Put gloves on your hands
2. Put safety goggles over your eyes
3. Put CDs in a trash bag
4. Snap the CDs in half (inside the bag to catch the shrapnel)

You should end up with a bag of broken CD shards

Step 3: Glue CD Shards to Hat

I wanted good strong glue, so I used Liquid Nails. I stuffed the hat full of newspaper so it would stay propped up for gluing. One of the CDs didn't break, it just bent, so I used that on the very top, I then started on the rim and glued CD shards all around the hat. Remember to always put the glue on the printed side of the CD so the shiny side is out.

REMEMBER YOU'RE DEALING WITH SHARDS OF BROKEN PLASTIC. THOSE PUPPY'S ARE SHARP. IF YOU GET MASSIVE CUT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTABLE FOR "HOW TO STOP BLEEDING" AND THE ONE CALLED "HOW TO CALL 911"

Step 4: That's It, Now You're Stylin'

That's all there is to it. Now you've got a fancy good lookin hat (that can also be used as a weapon because it is made of . . .you guessed it. . . shards of broken plastic). It is very reflective and kind of cool (depending on what your world views on cool are).
