Introduction: Candied Poison Apples
Edible glitter is a thing. A little difficult to find, but if you can, it's really great. This recipe is for your standard candied apples, but with edible glitter (or for a non-edible prop, you could use regular glitter).
I'm hoping to find a decent basket so that I can pass out these tasty little treats at our Halloween party :)
Step 1: Materials & Ingredients
-6 small red apples (with stems)
-3/4c sugar
-1/3c light corn syrup
-2-3 drops red food gel
-edible red glitter
-candy thermometer
-flavoring *optional*
Step 2: Prep
Put your glitter into a bowl and set near your cooking area, if you have a friend, extra hands definitely help with this recipe.
Step 3: The Candy Coating
Put all of the ingredients, except for the red gel and any flavorings, into a pot and bring to a boil. It's a lot easier if you use a candy thermometer to keep an eye on the temperature. You want the sugar to hit the "hard crack" stage, usually 300-310 degrees. Just before it does, add your coloring and flavors.
Step 4: The Glitter
As carefully as you can, swirl each apple one by one in the sugar mixture and then transfer quickly to the bowl of edible glitter and coat as well as you can. Set aside on parchment and let cool.

Its called 'Sanding Sugar'. Look for it in the cake decorating section. It is usually more available around Christmas.
