Intro: Car Key Disguise!

Have you ever needed to lock your car but you didn't have the opportunity to take the keys with you?
Why not hide the most convenient place possible? At your car!

In this small projects I show you how to make a key disguiser to hide away your keys where you need them.

Enjoy!

STEP 1: 3D Printing!

Because Why not!?

I decided to make a 3D printed box to fit this project, but you can use whatever you like!
You could use something like a small jar where you glue some magnets on the inside of the lid.

STEP 2: Gluing in the Magnets

Time to heat up the glue.

If you want to use this feature as an spare key that's always near the car then it needs to be strong!
I bought some magnets that I believed could handle the load, and don't be cheap on the numbers of magnets! Even if you think one is enough use six! when you run over bumps, turns tight corners or even breaks the container will be adjective to forces from different angles, and that's why you can't rest assure that it can hold it's own weight when it is summit to additional 2-3 G (times it's own weight).

BUT! If you want to use it like I do, to hide your key when you don't have the opportunity to take it with you. Like when you go out swimming? Then it enough to just make it hold it's own weight. (+ a little extra)

STEP 3: Testing/Mounting.

It's done!

Try it out, find a good place underneath your car and if your car is super dirty underneath then wipe it a little clean before you mount. Then it has the best possible adhesion.

In the pictures I just wanted to show that it sticks, but it's possible to put up in small gaps where it wouldn't be noticed easily. Plus if you don't know it's there, then there is a small chance, you'll be looking for it ;-)

I hope you liked my little project! If you liked it be sure to favorite, share or maybe even give a vote?
It definitely help me out in future projects! and it help's me to know what kind of projects you want to see in the future.

See you next time!

some keys have a transmitter in them. the magnets in the box may disable some functions

This is a very clever way to hide keys. Much cleverer then under the wheel! LOL!

And the best part. It works! :D

There are lots of places to hide a vehicle key on the vehicle. But you can't make the compartment stick out like a sore thumb. If the compartment looks new and totally different then everything else around it, it isn't hidden. The secret to hiding things is to make it blend in with the surroundings like it actually belongs there. JMHO

Yes but my experience tells me that it is almost always a bit to noticable if you don't want to get down on all 4 and crawl underneath the car. ;)
