Introduction: Carboard Escalator

My final project for this class was building an escalator out of cardboards. The project doesn't require any electronics or coding skills and is mostly engineering and design based.

Supplies

Tools:

  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Box cutter knife
  • Compass

Materials:

  • Cardboard
  • Wooden Sticks

Optional:

  • Laser-cutting machine

Step 1: Cut Your Cardboard Into the Design Shown in the Picture

You can either use a box cutter or a laser cutter to cut a cardboard as shown in the picture.

Step 1: The first step is to cut the cardboard into 415 mm x 210 mm and place it on a flat surface.

Step 2: The second step is to trace the escalator design on the cardboard.

Step 3: Now, with the help of a compass, make some arcs on one side of the escalator design.

Step 4: Then, cut the traced design on the cardboard

Step 2: Take a 14 Mm Cardboard Strip and Cover the Escalator in the Shown Manner.

Step 3: Take 14mm Squares and Place Them With the Help of a Hot Glue Gun As Shown in the Picture.

Step 4:

  1. Remove the outer layer of a 14 mm cardboard strip.
  2. Then take a wooden stick and cut into small pieces.
  3. Put those wooden sticks in the cardboard holes. (make sure to leave one hole every four wooden sticks)

Step 5: Carefully Insert the Cardboard Strip Into the Escalator Design From Before.

Step 6:

  1. Cut 3 circles of radius 35 mm and stick them together.
  2. Stick the wooden pieces on the circles.
  3. Create 4 similar gears.

Step 7:

Make a cardboard model as shown in the picture.

Step 8:

  1. Stick the escalator handles to the model.
  2. Then add the circles inside the gear strip from earlier.

Step 9: Make Some Cardboard Stairs, Fix Them in the Escalator, and Fix the Wooden Pieces at the Sides.

Step 10: Final Results
