Introduction: Cardboard Book Locket

About: I love the outdoors, A lot! I love doing crafts and making things. I made a victorian dollhouse from a McDonalds cardboard box, and twig dolls, and forts in the woods.

So I have wanted to make a locket for a while, but I wasn't sure how. This idea came to me when I was working with some cardboard. enjoy

materials-

cardboard
scissor
glue
scrap paper
paint
wire
scrap fabric
cardboard knife
pencil
ruler
string or chain

Step 1: Step One

cut and measure four identical rectangles, I cut mine 1in x 1 1/2 in.

Step 2: Step Two

take two rectangles and cut out the middles, these will be the inside layers of the locket.

Step 3: Step Three

poke two small holes in one frame to run the wire through. don't pull the wire tight, the wire sticking up will be the clasp. fold the ends over the side. One the adjacent frame, make a slit that the wire will be able to fit in.

(note) if the slit is too wide, the wire will slide in and out and won't keep the locket shut.

Step 4: Step Four

cover one longways edge of the uncut rectangles, theses will be the book covers. glue two prices of fabric two the covers, leaving space between them, these are the hinges. then glue the frames over squares (on the side that the hinges are glued on. wipe away excess glue and allow it time to dry.

Step 5: Step Five

take price of wire, about four inches log, and make a loop, twist the ends together and cut it to be about an inch long. Curl the end of the twist into a hook shape. Carefully push the hook under the fame of the book, add a dot or two of glue to the wire to help hold it to the cardboard

Step 6:

over all the edges of the cardboard, cover with paper so the inside of the cardboard doesn't show.

Step 7: Final Step

now the fun part! pant the outside to look like a book cover. Beautiful Creatures is my favorite book, so I painted that. you could pant the inside if you want. Put your new locket on a string or a chain. put a small picture or note inside it.
