Introduction: Cardboard Fold-flat Headrest to Extend Legroom for Sleeping in Your Car

About: just getting back into Instructables. Hopefully some better projects to come!

It's convenient to be able to sleep in the back of your car with the back seats laid flat. But what if it isn't long enough? We wanted to make something to fill the gap behind the passenger seat, but also fold flat!

Supplies

Get a cardboard box, come up with a plan (it doesn't have to be perfect... it's cardboard!), get a bread knife (it works great on cardboard), start measuring and drawing lines and cutting!

Step 1: Get Started!

We cut this box down a bit so it would be at the right height (level with the flat rear seats). The box tabs fold inward to give vertical support.

We left a tab to slide into the pouch behind the passenger seat to help keep the box in place horizontally.

We also made some cut-outs in the corners of the box where the sliding rails for the front passenger seat are.

Step 2: Polish It Up

Once it looks and feels about right, then make it a bit more long-lasting.

We added another sheet of cardboard on the top to make it a bit stiffer.

Then we added duct tape all around the edges to prevent them from fraying.

Step 3: Test It Out!

Looks pretty sweet! And it folds flat! Sooo happy! Easy car camping soon =)
