Introduction: Carpet Deodorizer and Freshener

About: I love using Mother Earth's gifts to heal and I strongly believe in healing Mother Earth any time I can! I am an activist of upcycling and recycling.

This recipe deodorizes and freshens your carpets with your own favorite scent.

Step 1: Gather Ingredients and Tools

Ingredients:

Baking Soda

Essential Oils of choice

Mason Jar (or other jar)

Tools:

Hammer

Nail

Step 2: Make Holes

Make holes in one lid with a hammer and a nail for a shaker lid. If you are using a mason jar you can just add another unpunched lid on top and seal with the ring and the jar will not leak. This is a great system for storing it.

Step 3: Add Baking Soda

Fill jar with baking soda. You might want to use a wide funnel or you might make a mess like we did here... :)

Step 4: Add Essential Oils

Add your essential oils of choice. The more you add the stronger scented your powder will be. If you want unscented carpet freshener you can omit the essential oils. You can also use ground dried herbs, although the scent will not be as strong.

My personal essential oil blend for my homemade cleaning products:

3 parts tangerine

3 parts lemon

2 parts eucalyptus

1 part lavender

1 part rosemary

1 part tea tree

Step 5: Shake

Shake and roll until fully mixed. You may wish to use a wooden spoon to stir as well.

Step 6: Sprinkle on Carpets

Sprinkle generously on your carpets and wait at least 20 minutes.
