Introduction: Cassete Shaped HD Case

About: Hobbyist in woodwork and electronics.

If you had an old notebook that became obsolete, you probably tried to keep at least the hard drive.

There are many external case options for those 2.5 '' HD drives that convert the SATA connection to USB, turning the old drive into a portable mass storage device.

The design was made to fit into these cases with "rounded corners" , but if you have a different one, just edit the Sketchup file.

Thing you will need:

- 2.5'' Hard drive

- Generic "rounded corners" HD case

- 3D Printer

- Color Printer

- Adhesive paper

Step 1: Get the Supplies

You can found these cheap cases for 2.5'' HD from internet stores.

Step 2: Print the Label

Download de the file "etiqueta K7.pdf" and print on adhesive papel.

Put the label on your HD enclosure. If you dont have adhesive paper you can print in regular paper and mask with adhesive tape.

In my case, I had other adhesive paper on my device, so I glue the label over it.

Step 3: Print the Case

If you bought the exact same kind of HD enclosure, just print the STL (with suports and in vertical position) on any 3D printer.

The printer needs to have more than 13cm of printing height.

If your enclosure is a bit different from mine, use Sketchup software to modify the SKP file and export again to STL.

Step 4: Enjoy

Now you have a external hard disk that looks like a big cassete tape.

In the end, hard disks and cassete tapes are both storage devices, so it is just a way of view ;)
