No need for long winded explanation. I figured out width of my cellphone and my girlfriends and used table saw set at 30degree angle. A little sanding and some stain and paint.

    for a 5" tall phone, the length of the piece behind the centerline of the notch should be 5*cos(60°) = 2.5"

    The only thing I can add to this is the end of the stand should be equal to the lean of the phone to short it will tip over. Run the piece through the table saw to notch out the area need for the phone.
