Intro: Cereal Box Magazine Holder

This magazine holder is a great way to get organized in upcycled style!  The project is from the book ReMake It! Recycling Projects from the Stuff you Usually Scrap by Tiffany Threadgould.  RePlayGround is an eco-crafty company that promotes do-it-yourself projects made from the stuff you'd usually throw into the trash.  Let's get started ReMaking!

You will need:
  • cereal box
  • pencil
  • ruler
  • scissors

STEP 1: Measure

1. Start with an empty cereal box, with one of its narrow sides facing you. Mark a straight line across this side of the box about 3.5” from the bottom. Lay the box down so the line you drew is on the right. Then mark an angled line across the front wide side of the box starting from the line you drew to the top left corner. Flip the box over and do the same thing on the other wide side of the box, starting from the line you drew and ending at the top right corner.

STEP 2: Cut

2. Open the top flap of the box and start cutting along the lines you marked, beginning at the top right corner. When you’re done, stand up your magazine holder and fill it up with your favorite magazines. This is a great project to subscribe to!

Thanks. I have a large cereal box I'm going to do this for for my oversized magazines and a smaller one too. I think I will cover them in tightly rolled magazine pages to add texture and cover the boxes.

Great idea, why buy the expensive ones in the office supply stores? Snickerdoodles has good advice tho, so I'll check sizes first!!! Thanks

I used to do this in high school for all those teen magazines it is an awesome idea! Cereal boxes ARE getting smaller though so word of advice shop for bigger ones (not necessarily more expensive) and measure the base length before you put your magazines in!

this is such a great hack. i was thinking it would also be cool to wrap the cereal box with cool wrapping paper if you wanted to add a design element to it.
