Child Moccasins

Keep little feet warm with these moccasin slippers that can be crocheted quickly. You will need a crochet hook and main color (MC) 4 ply worsted weight yarn in the following sizes and amounts: for 4 1/2 inch sole, use F hook, 1 ounce yarn and follow first set of directions; for 5 inch sole, use G hook, 1 1/4 ounces yarn and follow first set of directions; for 5 1/2 inch sole use G hook, 1 1/2 ounces yarn and follow directions in parentheses; for 6 inch sole, use H hook, 1 3/4 ounces yarn and follow directions in parentheses. Also needed is a small amount of worsted weight yarn in contrasting color (CC) for tie.

This pattern was found in The WORKBASKET February, 1987 addition on page 30. Thought more people may want to make these.

Step 1: SHOE (Make 2)

With MC, ch 10 (12).

Rnd 1: HDC in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 7 (9) ch, 4 hdc in last ch. Working around on opposite side of ch, hdc in next 7 (9) ch, 3 hdc in last ch - 22 (26) hdc.

Rnd 2: 2 Hdc in next 2 hdc, hdc in next 7 (9) hdc, 2 hdc in next 3 hdc, hdc in next 8 (10) hdc, 2 hdc in next 2 hdc - 29 (33) hdc.

Rnd 3: 2 Hdc in next 3 hdc, hdc in next 9 (10) hdc, 2 hdc in next 5 hdc, hdc in next 10 (12) hdc, 2 hdc in next 2 hdc - 39 (42) hdc.

Rnd 4: 2 Hdc in next 5 hdc, hdc in next 11 (13) hdc, 2 hdc in next 7 hdc, hdc in next 14 (15) hdc, 2 hdc in next 2 hdc - 53 (56) hdc.

Rnd 5: HDC around 53 (56) hdc.

Rnd 6: YO, insert hook in next hdc, draw lp through, yo, insert hook in next hdc, yo, draw through all lps on hook (dec made), dec once more, hdc in next 2 (3) hdc, dec, hdc in next 18 hdc, dec, hdc in next 6 hdc, dec, hdc in next 17 (19) hdc - 49 (51) hdc. Sl st in next st, fasten off.

Step 2: Inset (Make 2)

With MC, ch 7 (9).

Rnd 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 4 (6) ch, 4 hdc in last ch. Working on opposite side of ch, hdc in next 4 (6) ch, 3 hdc in last ch - 16 (20) hdc.

Rnd 2: 2 Hdc in next hdc, hdc in next 5 (7) hdc, 2 hdc in next 3 hdc, hdc in next 5 (7) hdc, 2 hdc in next 2 hdc - 22 (26) hdc.

Rnd 3: 2 Hdc in next 2 hdc, hdc in next 6 (8) hdc, 2 hdc in next 5 hdc, hdc in next 6 (8) hdc, 2 hdc in next 3 hdc - 22 (26) hdc.

Rnd 4: (Half a rnd) 2 Hdc in next 3 hdc, hdc in next 9 (12) hdc, 2 hdc in next 2 hdc, hdc in next 3 hdc, sl st in next hdc, fasten off. - 22 and one sl (25 and one sl)

With CC and yarn needle, sew inset to shoe, matching sts where fastened off. Count back 9 (11) hdc and begin sewing around. Leave 14 (16) hdc free.

Step 3: Tie (Make 2)

With CC, ch 75. Weave tie in remaining hdc of top rnd of shoe, pull up on each side of 2nd rnd of inset and tie into a bow.

And thats it! You now have 2 cute little moccasins for your little one!! <3
