Introduction: Children and Pet Safe - Window Cleaner

About: I love kitties and cooking. :) Degree in nursing, worked at an animal shelter for a while before staying home to care for my baby and pets. Passion for illustration and nutrition.

Recently I was detailing my car, everything was wonderfully cleaned, except for the windows! I ran inside to finish the job, and lo' and behold, I was out of window cleaner. Now, I'm the type of person who likes to finish a job, so that wasn't going to stop me. I experimented and put together this window cleaner, which I like just as much if not more than the store-bought stuff, and it only costs a few cents to make.

Additionally, my household has a 6-month-old baby and cats and dogs, and this cleaner is safe for all of them to be around.

For this tutorial, I am cleaning my back glass door. My dogs regularly jump into it when they want to come inside, so it gets dirty with the Georgia clay. There are some scratches on the window but this cleaner really makes the glass shine.

Step 1: Ingredients

You will need:

- 2 Tbsp Cornstarch

- 1 Cup Hot Water

- 1 Cup Vinegar, White

- Optional: Fragrance Oil

- A Container for mixing

Step 2: Combine

Mix your vinegar, water, and fragrance oil if you choose to add that.

Add in the cornstarch afterward, and mix until well blended. I use a mason jar so I can just shake it up.

**** Some essential oils and fragrances are toxic to cats and dogs, please look into your fragrance before using it.

Step 3: Appearance

When you are using this product, it has a glue-like color. When you wipe at first, it will appear streaky, but as the cornstarch dries, the streaks will vanish. You can use this on any glass or mirrors you have.

Step 4: Wipe

I find that this works very well. I attached an image showing how it wipes the dirt off with ease.

Gross, I know.

Step 5: Enjoy!

I hope you get some use out of this product and feel good knowing that it is safe for your family. I don't need to worry about hiding it from my pets and children, I just whip some up when I need it and I'm good to go.

Thank you so much for reading! If anyone has any requests for home and food-related Instructables, I would be happy to try and come up with something for you, just let me know. :)
