Children's Hospital Gown
Intro: Children's Hospital Gown
This gown is so simple to make, and the possibilities are unlimited: camouflage, princess, bling, sports, trains, Elmo, Christmas, Easter, etc. A child in the hospital is an awful thing, so anything you can do to make them feel better is worth doing.
STEP 1:
Begin by cutting out the fabric pieces. Use the shape of a basic V-neck, with extra hem length. The picture shown is for a toddler-sized gown and can be enlarged as needed. You should cut out one front piece, two back pieces that mirror each other, and one front pocket.
STEP 2: Serge
Serge the edges if possible.
STEP 3: Button Hole on Chest
Sew a buttonhole on the left front chest. (This buttonhole will be covered by the front pocket, and will allow hidden access for a heart monitor.)
STEP 4:
Attach front and back pieces together by sewing the side-seams to each other. Begin at the bottom edge of sleeve and end at the hem. Repeat on other side.
STEP 5:
Sew the front and back shoulders together. Begin at the edge of the sleeve and sew to the neckline. Repeat on other side.
STEP 6:
Put a finished edge on the front and back neck-line. I used a white ribbon as trim. An alternative would be to simply turn under the edge and sew it.
STEP 7:
Put a finished edge on the hem line and the sleeves.
STEP 8:
Sew a tie onto each corner of the center back neckline
STEP 9:
Locate matching points on the edges of back pieces, about midway down the back, and Sew a tie onto each side.
STEP 10:
Sew on front pocket over the buttonhole.
STEP 11: Strike a Pose
