Chinese Honey & Sesame Seed Chicken
Intro: Chinese Honey & Sesame Seed Chicken
Chinese honey and sesame seed chicken is a dish consisting of small, partially fried chunks of chicken draped in a sweet honey and sesame seed glaze and then baked.
it is worth noting that the dish isn't really representative of Chinese cuisine or culture, it is possible that it is related to the dish "General Tso's chicken" but even that has questionable origins that may not even be Chinese. It would be more accurate to describe this dish as "Chinese inspired European and North American honey & sesame seed chicken" as it is commonly found in restaurants in the West, but not really in China. I have kept the title 'Chinese' because the alternative just doesn't have the same ring to it!
It is not a very time consuming or difficult dish to make, with the exception of turning it over in the oven at regular intervals. This dish works perfectly as a homemade Chinese take away option, for a Sunday night curled up in front of a good film or TV program. Most importantly it is far cheaper then a takeaway , and you will have lots of it! :D
If you feel like your're up for trying it there is a link below to show you how I made it.
The ingredients are:
Ingredients:
4 chicken breasts
1 cup cornstarch
3 eggs
Sunflower seed oil (for frying)
salt and pepper
Sauce:
1/2 cup honey
3/4 cup soy sauce
1/3cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp minced garlic

Thanks for sharing this recipe. It was a big hit in our household and certainly tasted LEGIT. It may not be as convenient as Chinese take-out (start to finish was approx. 1.5 hrs for me), but it was well worth the effort. Thumbs up!
