Introduction: Chocolate Covered Fritos
Fritos are good. But what's better than fritos? Chocolate-covered fritos. Now, I'm not sure if there's already a tutorial for this but I HAD to share.
This snack is SUPER easy and quick... but arguably, not very healthy :( (oh, they're delicious as well)
Let's begin!
Step 1: Materials
What you'll need:
(pictured)
- Fritos (I used 12 fritos - it might not seem like a lot, but they're not something you eat a ton of :)
- Chocolate (I use Ghirardelli baking chocolate, 60% cocoa)
- Wax Paper
(not pictured)
- Microwave-safe bowl
- Spoon
Sorry for horrible pictures. The lighting in my house is awful.
Step 2: Get Everything Ready
Lay out 12 fritos on a length of paper. (I didn't think about this earlier, but it might be nice to put the wax paper on a tray first.)
Pour 1/2 cup of chocolate chips into your microwave-safe bowl.
NOTE: I am not a professional chef, nor do I specialize in candy-making (the burnt smell of sugar and flavoring in my house makes this sort of evident, lol) so I'm using the microwave to melt my chocolate.
Step 3: Melt the Chocolate
Microwave for 2 minutes. (Or until the chocolate looks like Picture #1)
Stir it up until it's smooth.
There's two ways you can cover the fritos: the dump method (picture 4) where you dump the chocolate into the waiting frito; or the dip method, (pictures 5&6) where you dip the frito into the bowl and completely cover it in chocolate. I prefer the dip method.
Whichever method you use, make sure to cover ALL of the fritos in chocolate... and don't eat too many in the process.
Step 4: Finishing Up
To store your fritos, refrigerate them.
Step 5: Enjoy!
... the leftover chocolate tastes good, too...
... y'know, I don't let anything with chocolate in it go to waste.
