Introduction: Christmas Tree Ornament

This christmas ornament is completely 3D printed out of ABS on a Makerbot Replicator 2x. The ornament has several important winter time ideas, as well as one political idea. This ornament contains: Bells, a Snowman, a Train (for around the tree), Santa's hat, The Washington Monument, a Present, Skis, a Candy Cane, and a Snowflake. The hole at the top of the ornament is ideal to put a ornament hanger through to hang on your own tree. Feel free to comment. The files at the end include the Makerware file, the Inventor file, the STL file, and the Makerbot File.

Step 1: Building the Inventor File

This drawing was built by drawing half of a tree. That drawing was then extruded by .1 inches. Then, the drawing is circular pattern around the center axis (6 times). Then, each of the six drawing received different cut outs, whatever you are in the mood for. My drawings included: Bells, a Snowman, a Train (for around the tree), Santa's hat, The Washington Monument, a Present, Skis, a Candy Cane, and a Snowflake. A small hole is put in the top of the ornament so it is able to be hung.

Step 2: Setting Up the 3D Printer File

The model should then be exported as an .stl file. Once this is done, you add it into your Makerware. Rotate the ornament so that it is like a standing tree. Make sure it is laying flat. Then, scale the ornament in the z direction to 2.6 inches. Then, click Make. Set the extruder to whichever extruder you prefer. Set the infill to 10%. Set the build plate heat to 130 degrees Celsius. Turn supports on. Turn rafts on.Then, export and you are ready to go.

Step 3: Finishing the 3D Print

Once the printing concludes, remove the ornament after 2 minutes so that the rafting does not stick to the build plate. Now, comes the clean up part.

Step 4: Removing the Rafts and Supports

Using a pair of needle nose pliers and cutting pliers, carefully remove all rafting and supports.
