Introduction: Clothes Hanger Fishing Hook

This is a fishing hook made out of a hanger. It isn't very small and it isn't preferable for fishing but if you don't know where you tacklebox is and you are miles from civilization then this might just have to do. I wouldn't rely on it but if you needed food this could save you.

What you will need:

1. A metal hanger

2. A pliers with wire cutter

3. Scissors or knife

Step 1: Cut Off a Piece of the Hanger

Take your wire cutter and cut off a section of the hanger.

A piece around 6 inches will do.

Step 2: Bend It Into a Hook Shape

Take your pliers and bend the end of your metal segment into a hook shape. Do a rough shape first then do more detail afterwards. Beware not to bend it too far or it may be susceptible to breaking!

Step 3: Cut the End

Cut off the end of your hook that wasn't bent. Leave an inch more on the end for the next step.

Step 4: Bend Into a Circle

Bend the top of the hook that hasn't been bent into a circle. It doesn't need to be big, but it shouldn't be leaving a gap anywhere that would allow the line to slip off. Press the end of the metal up against the hook if it's not tight.

Step 5: Sharpen the Hook

By using a knife (or scissors in my case) you can try to sharpen the end by shaving off parts. It is best to start off with a wire cutter at an angle to make a rough cut, then using the knife or scissors to finish up. It may be crude but it is not meant for long term use.

Step 6: Admire Your New Hook

It may not be shiny or sharp like your regular hook, but this is a cool little novelty that someday could get you out of a food shortage or cure your boredom if you're the fishing type. Please enjoy and remember this is only meant to be used if you don't have any hooks and you can't go get any. Good luck!
