Cockatiel Shower Perch

Introduction: Cockatiel Shower Perch

Indoor birds enjoy taking baths as much as outdoor birds. It’s especially important for indoor birds to have frequent baths to help remove loose feathers, extra oils, and dander, while also supplying supplemental moisture. This DIY shower perch is perfect to include in your shower to allow your bird to enjoy a shower during a molt or just a weekly event.

Step 1: Materials

1 PVC pipe 1/2 inches thick and 6 inches

2 PVC pipes 1/2 inches thick and 3 inches long

2 PVC 90 degree elbow joints (1/2 inch thick)

2 Medium suction cups

1 bottle of all-purpose glue (I used Loctite GO2 Glue)

Vet tape

Table saw (for stability in cutting the pipe)

Step 2:

Using a table saw, cut the three pieces of PVC pipe to the specified lengths (2 pieces three inches long and 1 piece six inches long)

Step 3:

Take the two suction cups and fit them into one end of the two 3 inch pieces using glue to keep in place

KEEP IN MIND: Make sure the nipples of the suction cups are facing the same direction to make it easier to remove the perch from shower wall

Step 4:

Using the 6 inch piece, fit the two elbow joints onto the opposite ends and use glue to keep in place

Step 5:

Attach the two 3 inch pieces into the unused ends of the elbow joints and use glue to keep in place

Step 6:

On the 6-inch piece, cut the vet tape down the middle to create two separate pieces. Wrap each piece a few times to create enough space for the bird to move along the piece.

NOTE: Make sure to replace the vet tape every 1-2 times you bathe the bird so it does not get bacteria in it

I assume the vet tape is to add something for the bird to grip? So doing a more permanent surface treatment would be ok?
