Introduction: Colorful Crochet Bunting

About: Customer service by day, fiber artist and obsessed creative by night. I have too much yarn and zero time. Oh, I'm also a graphic design major.

Today I’m showing you how to create your own easy crochet bunting out of scrap yarn and twine! This pattern is super easy – you’ll basically be creating little 2-round triangles and threading them through with twine to hang. Very simple!

This bunting is great in that you can alternate the colors, go with a particular color theme, and make as many or as few triangles as you want for a long or short garland. Let’s get started!

You'll need:

  • US K (7mm) crochet hook
  • Scrap yarn in desired colors
  • Twine and needle to thread/weave in ends

Step 1: Crochet the Triangles

Chain 4, join with slip stitch in first chain to form a ring.

Chain 3, double crochet in ring, *chain 2, 2 double crochets in ring, repeat from * around 4 more times, until you have 12 double crochets total, join with double crochet to 3rd chain of beginning chain 3.

Chain 3, work double crochet around joining double crochet, chain 3, 2 double crochets around joining double crochet, *chain 2, single crochet in next chain-2 space, chain 2, work (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next chain-2 space, repeat from * once more, ending chain 2, single crochet in next chain-2 space, chain 2, slip stitch in 3rd chain of beginning chain 3.

Fasten off, weave in all ends.

Step 2: String the Triangles on Twine

Thread the triangles through with the twine on the long edge, through the corners, to hang. And you are finished!

Is this not adorable? I want to use up all my scrap yarn this way! Happy crocheting, friends. Comment with any questions!
