Do you know if Chamotte Grain is the same as Perlite or Vermiculite? I'm gonna try and make this with a layer of refractory cement mixed with Perlite, and a layer of fiber reinforced concrete. Instead of a sand form I already have an awesome 32" solid copper fire-pit bowl that I'm gonna flip over and coat with a release agent (so I can remove it to clean it and easily dump the ashes. I'll let ya know how it goes!

Yes it's sand. The one needed for the sandbox of children.

So elegant! I love also how you placed the fire bowl on boulders. This should be in the HGTV magazine!
