Intro: Concrete and Copper Pipe Holder

Steph's been wanting to make another concrete project and came up with an idea for using copper pipe to make a holder for pens/markers for her desk. Her desk is very rustic industrial looking so a concrete and copper pipe holder is a perfect addition to her desk. By the way, copper pipe ended up being way easier to cut than either of us realized!

STEP 1: Watch the Video


STEP 2: Gather Materials

  • Concrete (Home Depot)
  • 1/2" copper pipe (Home Depot)
  • 1/2" PVC caps (optional) (Home Depot)
  • Plastic bottles (we used pure leaf tea bottles)
  • Aluminum tape (optional) (Amazon)
  • Tube cutter (Amazon)
  • Mallet
  • Mixing bowl/spoon
  • Safety gear: gloves, mask, safety glasses

STEP 3: Cut Plastic Mold to Size

STEP 4: Cut Pipe and Add Caps

Cap pipe with pvc caps or tape. This will protect the inside pipes from concrete while curing.

STEP 5: Mix Concrete and Add Pipes

STEP 6: Wait 20 Hours and Remove Mold

We made a couple of versions. The left one was made with RapidSet cement.

STEP 7: Done!

Sometimes it's fun to do a project that doesn't take a lot of time or effort. Small concrete projects are those projects for us!

Adding cement tint can add some color which will not wear off when grinding off the sharp edges and will not flake off like paint would.

I look forward to making these myself, and those log seats, they were dynamite.

Oh, and the pallet head board if I can find the right space.
